Ultra - Gradebook
This tutorial introduces the Gradebook in Blackboard Ultra. See what you need to grade in all your courses, or drill right into a course and get started. From the base navigation, you have immediate access to all your courses' grading tasks on the global grades page. You can quickly scan everything you need to grade without navigating to each course. Within your course, you can access the course Gradebook on the navigation bar. Wherever you start your grading process, everything you need is just a click away.
At the beginning of the term
Before you start teaching, it's worth spending time in a few places:
- Explore and customize your gradebook: Customize how your gradebook looks and behaves, including Student options (choose whether to display student name or student ID) and whether to include students who no longer have access to the course. Refer to Navigate the Gradebook and Gradebook Settings.
- Configure grading settings: In Gradebook Settings, you can configure course rubrics, grade categories, and more. In addition to course-wide settings in Gradebook Settings, assessments have item-specific settings. In Assessment Settings, you can define grade category and how the assessment is graded, set number of attempts allowed and which attempt to grade, select another type of grading (anonymous, delegated), and configure when grades and feedback are released to students.
- Understand how grades are calculated then set up calculations: Decide on a grade schema, whether to use automatic zeros, and how your overall grade is calculated. Refer to How Grades are Calculated.
- Set up attendance: You can set up and manage attendance at any time throughout the term. If you would like attendance to count as a grade, we recommend setting it up at the start of the term. Refer to Attendance.
Throughout the term
- Manage accommodations, exceptions, and exemptions: You can set these at the beginning of the term or throughout the term. Refer to Accommodations and Grant Item-Level Accommodations and Exemptions.
- Grade assessments: Grade assessments in a timely manner by regularly clearing your action items.
- Post grades: After grading an assessment, post the grade and feedback so that the students can access it. Refer to Post Grades.
