Multimedia: Adding YouTube Videos to Blackboard Content

Obtaining the URL from YouTube

Go to the video on YouTube.

There are two ways to get the URL for a YouTube video. Either method will copy the URL.


Get the URL from the top of the browser.

Or, click the “Share” button and then copy the link provided.

When the Share option is selected, the URL for the video will display.

Select the Copy option to add the URL to the computer's clipboard.

Return to the Blackboard course section you are working in.


In Blackboard

Within the content area, select Create>Web Link.

A new page will display for you to add the URL to the content area.

Type in the Name of the link (it is recommended to use the name of the video on YouTube) and paste in the URL you copied from YouTube into the URL field.


If you need to add any sort of description or context for the video, you can type it in the Description field.

It is recommended to have Open in New Window set to “Yes” to prevent students from losing track of the Blackboard course.

Set the Standard Options. The defaults are recommended.

Permit Users to View this Content - YES

Track Number of Views - No

Select Date and Time Restriction - If necessary

Select Submit to lock in your preferences.
